J. D. Overdrive: Fortune favors the brave

Oh man, I really hope that J.D. doesn’t stand for Jack Daniels? That would be so full of cliché. Self proclaimed “southern rockers” J. D. Overdrive from Poland tries to get their shit going with their second album. And, yeah, it starts out kind of OK, with a groovy riff, a really clonky bass (which sounds cool) and a semi-angry singer who tries to get his Anselmo’s together. Suddenly a Chad Kroeger voice appears in the chorus? Whats up with that? The band has identity problems, and it seems to me that they have internal problems whether they should go full-on commercial radio rock or the more harsher Pantera style? Further on it leans more and more to the cleaner Kroeger singing and less Anselmo. Are they transitioning from a harder style or changing to a harder style? I don’t know? It’s weird with the different vocal tones.

It doesn’t really matter, ‘cause they are not going to make it in either genre, but my recommendation would be commercial radio rock. Those fans are easier to fool than real metalheads. That style of music goes well around pretend bikers in their 40’s with freshly made tattoos while posing with devil horns on Instagram and Facebook accompanied by a text like “The party is on!!” or “Lets go!!”. It’s an OK album from a rock perspective, but that’s not really what we masturbate to here at the GD office.

3/10: Freshly made tattoo’s with a mini-bottle of Jack.

Listen to one of the better songs here: Video-clip (by the way I shat my pants while watching this video, so I changed the grade to a 3)
